Historical archaeology is a subfield of archaeology that focuses on studying the material remains and artifacts of relatively recent human societies, typically from the past few centuries. It combines archaeological methods with historical research to understand and interpret the lives and behaviors of people who lived during recorded history. An example of historical archaeology could be the excavation and analysis of a colonial settlement from the 17th century. This could involve studying the artifacts, structures, and features associated with the settlement to learn about the daily lives, activities, and interactions of the people who lived there during that time period.
